10 COMMANDMENTS FOR WELCOMING PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Inclusion Ministry Activities

Our Mission

Called together as persons with many challenges, Cabrini parish witnesses to the Good News that all persons are created in God's image and likeness.  We seek to promote the full participation of all persons and their gifts into our faith community at St. Frances Cabrini.

Our Goals

To assist people with special challenges, we work to:

  • Promote genuine inclusion and active participation in the life of the Church.
  • Enhance personal growth and self-esteem of all faith community members and support their contributions to the Church and society.
  • Assist all faith members to live with and among, accept, and ultimately cherish the persons and gifts of the uniquely challenged.

From the U.S. Catholic Bishops'

PASTORAL LETTER ON PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

"If people with disabilities are to become equal partners in the Christian community, ...the leaders and the...membership of the Church must educate themselves to appreciate fully the contribution people with disabilities can make to the Church's spiritual life."

"...Out of their experience they forge virtues like courage, patience, perseverence, compassion, and sensitivity that should serve as an inspiration to all Christians." dove21.gif (34752 bytes)

Prayer is our humble answer to the inconceivable suprise of living. It is all we can offer in return for the mystery by which we live.... Amidst the meditation of mountains, the humility of flowers - wiser than all alphabets - clouds that die constantly for the sake of God's glory, we are hating, hunting, hurting. Suddenly we feel ashamed of our clashes and complaints in face of the tacit glory in nature. It is so embarrassing to live! How strange we are in the world, and how presumptuous our doings! Only one response can maintain us: GRATEFULNESS for witnessing the wonder, for the gift of our unearned right to serve, to adore, and to fulfill. It is gratefulness which makes the soul great.                                   Rabbi Abraham Heschel
